I started on the DotSpatial with

I got a sample code:
dim fs As New featureset ()
fs.Open ("C: \ Temp \ roads.shp")

When I place it in a project replaces by, if retains, I have an error message.

dim fs As New featureset
SSource g_sCarto = & "\ PAR_MODELE.shp"
fs.FillAttributes ()
FeatureSet.Open (sSource)

Can you help me?

In this case, my guess is to try something closer to the following:

Dim sSource g_sCarto = & "\ PAR_MODELE.shp"

Dim fs As FeatureSet = FeatureSet.Open (sSource)

fs.FillAttributes ()

You should notice that the open method returns the feature set.

If this doesn't work, please post the error message. It's usually a good idea to share your error message, as the error message often explains what the problem is or what you need to do.
