Portability MapWindow 4 to DotSpatial

Feb 24, 2011 at 10:31 AM

Hello,

I would like to know if an application written using MapWindow OCX could be converted easily to work with DotSpatial ?

Same question with a plug-in for MapWindow GIS ?

I think it can’t.

My guess is that a good programmer could port a mid-sized (50,000 lines of code) program from MapWinGIS to DotSpatial in two weeks, and then would need another couple of weeks for debugging. The same for a similarly sized MapWindow plugin. - Dan

Hi Kosmo2000,

I don't think a conversion would be trivial but it wouldn't be overly complicated either. I think it would largely depend on how complicated your plug-in/application was and how closely its code was tied in with the MapWinGIS objects. Obviously code that did more unrelated to the map would be easier to convert.
